Grammy Top Three Picks

As you all know the 2013 Grammy awards were presented last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.  I featured some of the red carpet looks from beauties 5’8 and taller on the Pretty Tall Style Facebook page, but here are my top three favorites of the night. I loved them all equally.

5’8 Rihanna looked absolutely amazing in red.  Classy looks good on her, as does bad girl, but I love that she is a style chameleon and can pretty much pull anything off that she chooses.

The 5’11 Taylor Swift looked lovely, like a Grecian goddess with her hair and  this stunning white gown.

The 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

5’8 Kelly Rowland looked amazing with the perfectly placed cutouts and sheer panels. I loved her flawless make-up and pulled back hair with bangs.

So did you have a favorite of the night, tall or otherwise?

Year of the Snake

Sunday February 10th is the start of the Lunar New Year or what is most commonly known as Chinese New Year.  Seeing that 2013 is the year of the snake, what better reason do you need to incorporate this exotic print into your wardrobe. Here are a few of my current favorites.

Farrah Bow Blouse, $109 via Height Goddess

Boyfriend Shirt Dress, $138 via Height Goddess

Joan & David Giane Pump, $149.95, up to a size 12 via Nordstrom

Steve Madden Tailor Flat, $49, up to a size 14 via Barefoot Tess

So how will you be incorporating snake print into your wardrobe this year?

My ‘Aha’ Moment

I had an “aha” moment while picking up my three year old son from pre-school yesterday.  Now my son is tall.  He will be four in May and he is already 46 1/2″ tall and wearing 5t clothes, which are now starting to come up short on him.  I’m used to seeing him tower over his classmates and even some of the first and second graders at his school.  But there is a boy who is four years old and in his pre-school class and has him beat by a good 2-3 inches in height and width. To kind of give you a visual my son would be say comparable to Kevin Garnett’s build and this other child (who happens to be asian) is Yao Ming sized….lol  He is cute as all get out, and every time I see him I am amazed at how big he is.  I find that I can’t stop looking at him when I’m in the class.  I stare at him, not because I think he’s weird or odd looking.  He’s well proportioned and like I said really super cute and so very well mannered.  I find myself staring at him because I am in awe of him.  It’s like I can’t help it, my eyes are drawn to this kid until he looks back and I catch myself and look away…lol

Then it hit me, this is what people do to  I was like ‘aha’!  I now realize that people don’t do it on purpose.  They are not purposely trying to be rude and don’t even realize that they are.  It’s something that you just can’t help and don’t realize that you’re doing until the other person makes eye contact with you and you feel ashamed once you realize you were staring, so you quickly look away. Or at least this is how I felt…lol  So I’m going to give everyone else, all the starers out there the benefit of the doubt and try not to get so upset when I catch someone staring at me from here on out, because I realize they just can’t help it…lol Aha! ;)

Baking Chronicles :: Double Peanut Butter Paisley Brownies

So I was in search of something sweet and comforting on Sunday. I know! Don’t judge me…lol It was a rainy and gloomy day and I was in the house in my PJ’s for most, if not all of the day; and I wanted something sweet.  I walked into my pantry and looked around for something I could make, that would satisfy my sweet tooth.  I stumbled upon a package of Reese’s Peanut Butter Chips.  Looked on the back of the package and read the ingredients and directions for double peanut butter paisley brownies. I thought to myself sounds good, so I gave them a try (along with two scoops of HäagenDazs vanilla ice cream.  (Remember we’re not judging

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened

1/4 cup peanut butter

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup packed light brown sugar

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1-2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg. peanut butter chips

1/2 cup Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.  Grease 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan.

2. Beat butter and peanut butter in large bowl.  Add granulated sugar and brown sugar, beat well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Blend in Vanilla.

3. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; mix into peanut butter mixture, blending well.  Stir in peanut butter chips. Spread half of batter in prepared pan; spoon syrup over top.  Carefully top with remaining batter, swirl with metal spatula or knife for marbled effect.

4. Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until lightly browned.  Cool completely in pan on wire rack.  Cut into squares. About 36 brownies.

The brownies are very rich and definitely hit that sweet and comforting spot.  But for my figures sake I probably won’t be making these again anytime soon, well at least not this month. ;)

Has anyone else ever made or had these before?  This was my first time trying them.

Transitioning Back to My Roots

12-26Pictures 050_pp

Another one of my goals, resolutions or lifestyle changes, (whichever way you say it) for 2013 is to stop relaxing my hair and  to keep heat styling to a minimum. The first time I decided to go natural six years ago, I did the “big chop”.  I just cut my hair all off and started all over growing it out.  I was miserable because it took me a while to find the right products to use and I was in Portugal so everything wasn’t readily available. But I eventually figured it out and started to like it.

My hair has of course grown since then.

There will be times when I want to wear it straight via blow drying and flat ironing.

So this time around I have decided not to cut all of my hair off, but to simply transition from relaxed to natural.  Which means I will continue to let my hair grow out in its kinky/curly natural state and then little by little cut off the relaxed hair by trimming my ends and eventually cut off  all the left over relaxed ends once it reaches a length I am comfortable with.

For those interested I will be finding and trying new hairstyles and products, sharing this journey with you. :) I’m excited about it, because I really do miss the texture and fullness.

Did anyone else make any resolutions in regards to their hair? Or did you make any changes as far as cut or color for the New Year?

Neiman Marcus For Target Clearance Haul

Yesterday I asked my husband if he wanted to go to target.  He said, “sure”.  While we were driving he asked what it was that i needed from target.  I told him they had another designer collection collaboration that I wanted to check out because it was supposed to be on clearance now for 50% off.  I also said I didn’t know what I needed until  I got there to see what they had…lol  That is how stores like Target and Wal-Mart work for me.  I may go in to buy one thing and walk out with 10 because I happen to see something I needed and didn’t know until I’ve seen it.

So when the hubby, kids and I walked into Target, I spotted the collection in the front of the store with 70% off clearance signs.  My eyes lit up and my pace quickened, my husband said you don’t have to run…lol  I was thrilled because I expected to see 50% off and 70% off well that garnered my happy dance.

Here is what I bought:

This Robert Rodriguez top is amazing! I absolutely love this top.  This picture doesn’t really do it justice.  In person it is really gorgeous and feels amazing. It’s just so pretty and girly yet chic and classy.  I can already picture a couple of things I’d like to pair it with. Can’t wait to wear it in an outfit post to show you all.  With a regular price of $79.99 I got it for only $23.98.

I loved the color and print on these  Tracy Reese desert plates .  They are rimmed in 18k gold, again simply gorgeous.  I plan to do more cooking and baking this year and thought these would be perfect to use when I’m taking pictures of something to show you all on the blog.  Plus I’m just a sucker for pretty things.  On clearance for only $11.98 for a set of 4, regularly priced $39.99.  These were a definite no brainer.

I’ve been needing something with small compartments to properly store my small stud earrings and I spotted this Diane Von Furstenburg jewelry box and thought how perfect and cute.  Now I would have much preferred they had a wrap dress from her…lol But this jewelry box is functional with a great black and white print and love her signature in the bottom.  Plus marked down from $49.99 to $14.98, it was a must buy for me as well.

Last but not least was this totally adorable Carolina Herrera journal set.  I have so many little journals and notepads that I simply buy because I like the way they look and I love jotting down notes, doodling…etc.  Loved the vibrant colors and prints of the journal and the primary colors of the pencils. Bought it for only $5.98.

I’m thinking this designer collaboration did not do as well as previous ones because of the original prices, but I’m sure at these more obtainable prices they should fly off of the shelves now.  So if there is a Target in your area you may want to may a quick stop.

P.S. As I write this I’m contemplating going to our other Target to see what they have and maybe picking up the Oscar de la Renta Tote, it looks perfect for Spring/Summer and under $20 if I recall. ;)

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!  I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday.  I didn’t bring the new year in with a big bang, I conked out at about 10pm laying in bed on my computer…lol. but I did enjoy spending an awesome New Year’s Eve day with my family driving up the North Shore and stopping at a few beaches to watch some amazing waves and then a pretty sunset.  One of my resolutions for this year is to definitely get out and make the most of this wonderful island I’m blessed to live on.  Here are a few scenic pictures from our New Years’s Eve day.

How did you all spend your New Year’s Eve?

Olive and Honey Gold

Hello lovely people, I hope you all are having a terrific Tuesday!DSC01525_pp

Today I am wearing a new color combination that I haven’t tried before and really like.  Olive and honey, the names seem to go together just as perfectly as the color pairing.

The neutral unassuming olive, tones down what could otherwise be a somewhat loud honey gold.  DSC01578

As you can tell I am loving my new Coach bag that the hubby picked out himself and surprised me with.  Love the detail, structure and color of the leather.DSC01524_pp

A cute and casual look that says I’m not afraid to try new things, within reason of course. ;) DSC01544_pp

What I’m Wearing:

Olive Blouse – via TJ. Maxx

Honey Gold Skinny Ankle Jeans – (tall)

Bag – Coach

Bracelets – Amrita Singh

Earrings – Jean Warehouse

Leopard Print Pumps – Nine West via

So tell me is this a color pairing that you’d be willing to try?
